Welcome to BP Mets Baseball

By Ben 04/11/2022, 1:00pm CDT

Welcome to the Mets!! My name is Ben Havn and I get the privilege of guiding us through this baseball season. A little bit about me. I have coached the past two seasons in 6/7s and last fall in 7/8. I learned a TON from our teams. My goal is for your child to be excited to come to practice and to games!

***William, our assistant coach and I would love to have your help at practices and games, especially if you can coach a base, run a pitching machine or keep score. We will also need a team manager that helps coordinate uniform distribution, DIBS check collection and help keep the bench in order. Let me know if you are interested in helping out and I will keep you in the loop. ***

We have a very young team, so this should be fun. The major thing that I learned in the past few seasons is that player happiness is correlated to being able to hit, so we will spend a fair amount of time working on that. This league is three swinging strikes and you are out, so making contact is important. If you can play catch for 10 minutes a day (or every couple days) with your child it will help a ton. Starting in June, we will start pitching in games as well. We will get working on that early to get the kids ready. Every kid who wants to pitch will get to pitch in at least 1 game.

Practices will be some combination of Sunday, Monday and Wednesday evenings depending on the early season weather. We will try to practice at least twice a week. I will know more on the practice schedule once I am able to book the fields. Weather permitting, plan on starting Monday the 18th. Opening Day is April 30th. Games are usually Monday and/or Wednesday nights. Once the season starts, we will probably just stick with 1 practice and 2 games a week. Practices should be about 1:15 or so. I will try my best to keep things as efficient as possible.
