Fastpitch FAQ's-2019

FEES:  
Regular registration fee (by age and/or grade, if appropriate): Cost is $245 per player,There will be new uniforms this year (Jersey and Pants)
When does registration begin? Feb 3rd, 2019 - March 10th, 2019
Late fee and when does late fee begin? The day after registration on-line has officially closed. Must get approval from the Board to register late AND participated in the evaluations. Only a vote from the Board can waive any late fee.
Cancellation fee and through what date can I cancel without special permission? Can cancel up to the closing date of registration with out special permission. You will be assessed a $20 cancellation fee.  
Scholarship amount? 50% off Registration
Scholarship requirements  (Federal form), must be resident of BP, more than 1 per family? Must fill out Scholarship form, live in BP and only 1 per family. Must provide Federal Form 1040.
When is the last day to sign up? Registration can be taken up to the day of evaluations.
Wait list fee required or not and when does wait list start? No Wait list at this time. Everyone that registers MUST try-out to be considered for a team.
Any other fees collected, and if so, what are they and who collects? BPFP State Qualifier Tournament is paid using part of your registration fees. However, if your team plays at the State Tournament, each player will need to chip in to help pay the gate fee (usually $100 per team) Also, if your team determines to play in extra tournaments throughout the season, the team pays for entry to each tournament.
PRACTICES/GAMES:  
Start date of practices Usually April for 10U & 12U, May for 14U and late May early June for 16U & 18U.
Start date of games/End of games Beginning of May for 10U & 12U, end of May for 14U and June for 16U & 18U. State Tournaments wrap up mid-late July.
Where are practices and games held? Practices are usually held in BP at the discretion of your coach. Games are held a variety of locations in the Metro. 
How many days a week are practices and games? Practices are 1-2 times a week or more before games start. Games are always Double Headers once a week for 10U, once a week through May for 12U and then twice a week in June.  Twice a week for 14U, 16U and 18U. 
Nights of week of games? 10U-Tuesday's
12U-Wednesday's in May, Monday and Wednesday's in June
14U-Tuesday's and Wednesday's
16U-Monday and Wednesday's 1
8U-TBD
Times of night that practices and games occur? Practices are the discretion of the coach and Games are a 6:15 start time.
Is there a tournament at the end, and if so, when? Yes. There is a Qualifier Tournament AND a State Tournament in July.
EQUIPMENT/UNIFORM:  
What is provided by BPAA and what are the fees? The registration fee covers full uniform (jersey and pants), umpires for all home games, city fees, league fees, Qualifier tournament gate fees, and coaches shirts. We also have a small amount assigned to equipment costs. BPAA provides all teams with catching equipment, practice balls, game balls for home games, helmets, some bats and a pitching machine when needed.
What do I have to buy for additional equipment/uniform? Recommended: Helmet with face mask and chin strap and sliding pads. Optional: bat, batting gloves and cleats
Where and when is equipment distributed? The Equipment Manager works with each coach to distribute needed equipment prior to the first practice
How does equipment get returned? The coach works with the Equipment Manager to return all equipment at the end of the season.
TEAM FORMATION:  
How do you determine the teams? Every player MUST attend evaluations to be considered for a team. Evaluations are Sunday March 10th,2019 2 pm - 5 pm. Times can be found on the www.bpaasports.org website.  A $25 evaluation fee will be collected per age level trying out for.  This fee is paid at the tryout registration table and is a fee charged by our evaluators used as a fundraiser for their softball program. Checks made out to Hamline University.
Can I register for this sport if I don’t live in Brooklyn Park or Brooklyn Center? Yes 
Can child play up or down age/grade without permission?   If I need special permission, who do I contact? If someone would like to play up a level, they are welcome to try-out for that level as well as the level they are in. You will need to pay the $25 fee for each evaluation. We do not allow playing down a level. Need to indicate on the registration form what level they plan on playing.
Do you have to try out to play and if I don’t make the tryout (assessment), am I still on a team? Yes, Evaluations are required. If you do not make evaluations, you can be placed on a team however our bylaws states that any player unable to attend tryouts are ineligible to be placed in the first pool of players chosen for our 1st team.
Can I request a coach? Due to the evaluation process, we cannot guarantee any specific coach as teams are made based on evaluations of players skill level.If you have any questions or concerns about coaches please contact the fast pitch board.

May I play on a friend’s team?  Can I request more than 1 friend, and if not, why not? Due to the evaluation process, we cannot guarantee any specific team as teams are made based on evaluations of players skill level. VOLUNTEERING/COACHING:  
If I want to coach or assist coach, how do I find out what it entails and how do I let BPAA know I’m interested? If you are interested in Coaching, we have an application process and a background check that needs to be done. The Board thoroughly looks over all applications and in some cases interviews potential coaches before decision are made. If you would like to coach, please download a copy from our website and email the completed form to scott.eickman@yahoo.com
What do volunteer duties entail and how much time is involved? Depending on what you volunteer for will depend on the time commitment. Please see Board positions and their duties.
What are choices for dates/times to volunteer? N/A
Who contacts them if they choose to volunteer? The Board.
If I don’t want to volunteer, if there a fee to not volunteer, and if so, how much and how is it collected? Not at this time

Who do I contact if I want to cancel after the cancellation deadline? In the event that someone wants to cancel, they will need to get pre-approval from the Board. The parent will need to email amason0806@gmail.com or jay.roles1@gmail.com to request cancellation. You will be assessed a $20 cancellation fee.  Someone on the Board will request a cancellation be done directly to BPAC.
How do I find out who my coach is? Once teams are formed, the Coach will contact all players and the teams and coaches will be posted on our website, www.bpaasports.org
Is there a meeting before the season starts to meet the coach? There will be a parent coach meeting in April 2019
