M/S/P
FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL – Matt Martinson - absent
FOOTBALL –Markus Carter
Haven’t had tons of complaints yet. A few e-mails from parents of Elementary Program have complained coaches are not playing their kids – at this age level each player is supposed to play at least one quarter per half. 7th & 8th rule specifies playing time is not guaranteed – going to try to keep best 11 players on field, but Markus has an agreement with Coaches regarding trying to give every player playing time; especially if winning by a lot of points. Have received one complaint from a parent of a player on a Traveling Team. Got a phone call from guy that runs the officials – parent at Saints game getting on the field – he heard some comments from some of the parents of Andover team calling the BP boys “thugs”. Perception that BP cheats, that we recruit players from all over the state, have try-outs, etc…Markus is bothered about kids leaving BPAA to go play at CDAA Program. 2nd-6th graders are down 50 or 60 players. Dan Williams commented he remembers a conversation a few years back regarding losing baseball kids to Champlin. All we can do is the best we can do.
BASKETBALL – Jerry Gamber
Have completed registration - 310 kids have signed up so far – had about 600 last year Can still register on-line – figure when football gets done they’ll get another 300 kids. Oct. 14th & 15th have been set as try-outs for Traveling. Coaches Meeting Oct. 26th for Elementary Program. Need more/new volunteers.
SOCCER – Dave Gulbrandson
Had a meeting, but didn’t come to any conclusions re: forming teams – good discussion. Overspent about $4000 than what they planned for. On Rec Trac evaluating scheduling games.
BASEBALL – Scott Smeaton
Fall try-outs went well. Now know all the rules to get information distributed to schools – District 11’s rules are very particular and constraining. Goal is to get BPAA info out a couple times BEFORE CDAA has their sign-ups. Making awesome, beautiful brochures. Have a new Board – Scott is still President & Kyle Olson is Vice-President. Treasurer is Pat Hall, Tony Kominski is Traveling Director, new Head Commissioner is Mark Jesse, new try-out Chair Jim Delmonico, Secretary is Debbie Heisler & Equipment Manager is Lisa Yerks. Have a full board. Opening Day Coordinator is off and running, Registration Coordinator is off & running. Why don’t we put banners on fences? Dan Williams stated city ordinance says we can’t. Had 4 sponsors on scoreboards (DQ, Trophies by Linda are 2 of them) & when the scoreboards quit working those 2 signs stayed up. Steve suggested he and Scott have a meeting to discuss this issue plus the Cushman issue, fence safety issues. Steve asked Scott to e-mail him with the facilities issues now instead of waiting for the meeting. Concession stand gets scrubbed
and cleaned 9/27 and shut down for the winter. Scott asked if the Concession stand can use an ING Savings Account versus a simple 2% checking account. Dave Corbett and Dan Williams said that would be fine.
SOFTBALL – Ed Ampe
Appreciation Dinner at Mad Jacks – 14 attended. First Board meeting scheduled Oct. 5th. Losing 3 long-time Board members, so hopefully will be able to fill those positions.
CITY OF BROOKLYN PARK – Steve Gulenchyn
Will get football checks cut, checking on user fees ($5-$7) for Soccer & Baseball. The 5% is for the administrative expenses. Really think its important that the “up-front” meeting happen each season with each sport so unexpected issues don’t just pop up. Make sure Director is involved, if Risk Manager needs to be there, Park Superintendent could be available, etc…Feel the increased communication will help things run smoother – more details addressed in advance.
Irrigation at Zane is looking good. Should have no problem having everything up and running by the Spring.
ADULT BASEBALL - Wayne Heuer
Won 4-5 games – only lost to State Champions by 2 runs. Really happy with first year. Looking for sponsors. Gearing up for year 2 – need a few more players.
OLD BUSINESS
Dan got $5000 check from Edinburgh USA ProAm Foundation for scholarships – would like to hear from each sport how many scholarships have been issued. Would like some press in the Sun Post.
Next month is Board Nominations for “voting” in November.
NEW BUSINESS
Bryan Bachand, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, presented The Sharing Advantage Program and is proposing a partnership with BPAA parents – one of Wells Fargo’s Marketing Programs. When a mortgage is closed $300 will be donated to BPAA. Steve suggested more discussion before we go down this path. Bryan will do a demo page and e-mail it to Dave Gulbrandson. Dan brought up the point that we are in good financial shape – it would be different if we were strapped financially.
Next meeting is Tuesday, October 28th, 2008 at CAC at 7:30
