TREASURER’S REPORT
Balance Sheet Detail, as of 7/22/08, submitted by Dave Corbett.
Re: Steve Lyons cell phone bill from last month- $164.25 – Scott Smeaton verified Steve is using the phone for all the coordinating/scheduling of championship tournaments/play-offs/rain-outs. Dan brought up that he doesn’t disagree that BPAA shouldn’t reimburse for BPAA use of personal cell phone, but thinks it is kind of high. Wondered if this is his personal phone or BPAA Baseball cell phone. Scott will check on it.
Softball expenses - Caribou coffee - Festival - stuff for concessions for Tournament.
Will be paying Storage Shed fee next month. Between $17,000 & $18,000. Eventually we will own this shed.

FOOTBALL –
Callistus (House League) First Registration last Wed. – 60+ have come through so far. Going through City for paying. Doing mandatory candy sales. Next registration is tomorrow. 2nd Annual day with Dick’s Sporting Goods Aug. 2nd. Park & Rec. had a day with Adrian Peterson – over half the kids were football players – kids had a great day!!! Ch. 12 interviewed 3 of the older boys.
Marcus (Traveling) Still anticipating a lot of teams signing up for tournament in August – have had calls, but no registrations yet– deadline is Aug. 8th. Pre-season Camp starts Monday, July 28th.
BASKETBALL – Jerry
Have September dates for sign-ups. Now that baseball is over can gather everyone up for Basketball. Sent flier to District to get permits for gym time. Still recruiting for volunteers.
SOCCER – Dave
Soccer started last week – 82 teams. 1201 players – another 10-15 stragglers as well. Have spoken with City regarding shed for tournament – would like a sink.
Regarding disparity of talent on teams – trying to get Commissioners to follow the rules. Parents complain and Commissioners want to handle things their own way. Some Commissioners do their own division and some don’t. Teams need to deal with what they are dealt. Try to make it as fair as possible. There are guidelines in place.
BASEBALL - Scott
12A’s won Gopher State Championship. Traveling Team did stellar this year as well. Going to do outdoor evaluations in Fall instead of Spring. Outdoor evaluations for Traveling only. BPAA does not organize any of the Fall baseball teams – loan equipment to coaches who want to do this. Had to bench a coach in 12 year-old American due to over-zealous behavior. He has a 12 year-old who will go into Babe Ruth next year so this information will be shared with them. This information needs to be shared with other programs so he is not allowed to coach any BPAA sports for a year. Coach’s name is Doug Jacobson. Major personality conflict between 2 National coaches.
Dan Williams announced to all that any time a coach in ANY BPAA Program is banned from coaching for a year that coach is banned from coaching ANY BPAA sport for one year and it is responsibility of Board members to share the offending coach’s name with the Board so all programs are aware.
Scott plan on putting together Operations Manual during the off-season to try address issues that keep cropping up. Need more than technical training for coaches as well.
SOFTBALL – Kim
Just had end of year tournament – still gathering everything together to see how did with concessions, jewelry, t-shirts. Feel tournament went well. Parents seemed happy. Disagreement regarding one team not called out for not sliding. 2 19U teams finished 1st and 2nd in State. They played each other for 1st and 2nd.
CITY OF BROOKLYN PARK – Steve
Finalizing Soccer tournaments. Football field prep will start soon. Got basketball information for the brochure. Scott brought up Cushman issue – Steve would like Risk Manager to be involved in any further discussion. Scott will schedule a meeting with Risk Manager, Steve and other appropriate parties for further discussion. Zane is going to be completely gutted after Soccer – sometime in August.
OLD BUSINESS
NEW BUSINESS
Dan - Each member will get e-mail with scanned copy of Tax Exempt number. Use for BPAA business only and give out with great discretion.
Dan - Would it make sense for BPAA to have a couple cell phones to pass around to various programs? Let’s discuss further.
Dave Corbett - $250 donation from Prudential. $500 from Medtronic. BPAA Volunteers are letting their employer know about volunteerism and corporations are matching with monetary donations.
Dan - Some Champlin Park students are working to get parks in Brooklyn Park all
go tobacco-free. We as a program are in support of this. They took it in
front of Park & Recs and they said both golf courses are public and it
won’t fly. Now they are going to try to get it passed minus the 2 golf courses
and CAC. Dan is appearing on behalf of BPAA at City Council meeting next
week. City is planning on passing this as a City Ordinance.
Next meeting is Tuesday, August 26th, 2008 at CAC at 8:30
