TREASURER’S REPORT
Balance Sheet Detail, as of 8/26/08, submitted by Dave Corbett.
Scott Smeaton checked with Steve Lyons regarding cell phone bill from last month- $164.25 – this is amount above his personal use on his personal cell phone.
Needs player counts – BPAA is charging $7/player fee to each sport - $2 for admin costs and the other $5 is to pay off storage shed. Dave needs player counts from soccer, slow-pitch softball & baseball and will need football soon so he knows how much to collect from each sport.
M/S/P
FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL – Matt Martinson
Matt took over for Chad in May, 2008 so still learning all the ropes.
Had 2 14U teams 2 12U teams and one 10U team– all did well in tournament play. 56 girls participated. Fall ball started last Sunday – have 5 teams again.
FOOTBALL – Markus Carter
Start In-House Season on 9/6 – teams all practicing – down 50 kids from this 2nd-6th grade program from last year.
Traveling – has 4 teams – up 20-25 kids from last year. They participated in Scrimmages in Andover and all did fairly well. Wrote letter to director of program regarding how well it was run. Season starts 9/4 – 10 game schedule – 3 Divisions. Should hear no complaints re: weight disparities this year. Tournament not held due to lack of interest. John Solomon got Viking pre-season tickets for the boys and they enjoyed that.
BASKETBALL – absent
SOCCER – Dave Gulbrandson
Season ended last Sunday – went extremely well – a lot of compliments. Broken arm and broken tooth are the only injuries Dave is aware of.
BASEBALL – Scott Smeaton
End of Season picnic and Coaches softball tournament. Went really well. Had a lot of fun – Dunk the Ump, gag obstacle course. Not enough activities for the kids was one complaint. Had gotten a lot of donations – prize committee did a great job!
Board approved use of Concession stand for Fall Ball as a Fundraiser for Cooperstown trip next summer. Cooperstown Team will purchase and sell all items. Committees in place to fundraise for the trip to Cooperstown. Planning next year’s Brooklyn Park Invitational.
Still need to schedule meeting with Risk Manager to discuss Cushman.
Surveys – only get 20% response – no surprises. No major complaints.
Fall evals. for traveling getting arranged. Have all coaches except 10 B Team.
SOFTBALL – Ed Ampe
25 coaches showed up for coaches picnic. Went way over budget this year so will have to take a close look at next year’s budget. Appreciation dinner in Sept. and then start meetings again in October.
CITY OF BROOKLYN PARK - absent
OLD BUSINESS
Dan - Dave Corbett sent PDF version of tax exempt form to Executive Board.
501(c) 3 is very specifically for the program. Use for BPAA business only and give out with great discretion.
Regarding Champlin Park students working to get parks in Brooklyn Park all go tobacco-free - policy FAILED in front of the City Council. Failed 5-2. Thought enforcing it would be a nightmare.
NEW BUSINESS
Elections next month.
Next meeting is Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 at CAC at 8:30
