FOOTBALL – Markus & Callistus

Went to Pop Warner Football seminar – it’s coming to MN.  The main person pushing for BPAA to join Pop Warner was the Bulldog coach.  Additional fee on top of other fees plus additional restrictions.  It’s going to take 2-3 years before they get it up and running in MN.  Doing on-line registration with City.  Registration Flyers printed and to be delivered to Jr. High Schools.  7th-8th Grade Football not going to be available through Jr. High’s as of next year.  Markus was referred to Jerry Lawler, Osseo Activities Coordinator.  They met and discussed similarities and differences between BPAA program and school program.  Fees are the same.  Discussed the equipment that will be sitting at Brooklyn Jr. High and Northview Jr. High.  We will probably have to have at least 2 additional teams to allow all the kids that want to play and can no longer play through school.  Discussed equipment and Jerry suggested fees be paid to the district to use the equipment.  Markus suggested BPAA renting the equipment and Jerry is checking with School District.  If we were to go out and buy the equipment (about a 10,000-12,000 expense) to equip 2-3 additional teams.  If there is another bond in November, 2008 and it passes District might re-instate Jr. High Football and then BPAA would have all this extra equipment and would be further in debt.  Helmets, Game Jersey’s and Game Pants.  Jerry’s e-mail address is:  lawlerl@district279.org.  Dan will draft an e-mail to Mr. Lawler and blind copy the rest of us tomorrow.  We’ll see how that works, if at all.

BASKETBALL – Jerry

Getting equipment back and organized.  Looking for more volunteers.  President position is open.  May have someone at Jr. High level, but Jerry will continue heading Elementary.  Rising gym fees are a concern.  Basketball program will probably experience a big influx of 7th & 8th graders next season as well.  Steve Gulenchyn brought up issue of all Jr. High Students who will not be able to be involved in After-School Sports any longer and what that may mean to the community.

SOCCER - Dave

Just began registration last night.  Planning Tater Daze Soccer Tournament June 20-22.  Just for fun – no trophies.  Good training opportunity for referees.

BASEBALL - Wayne

Budget submitted by Wayne on behalf of Scott Smeaton.  Numbers are down a little this year.

M/S/P

Regarding Adult Baseball they are up and running they have a team, they have schedules, they’ll have 8:00 PM games under the lights at Noble.  First game is June 2nd.

SOFTBALL – Ed

Registrations with City went well.  Process was fairly smooth.  Team formations complete – down 3 teams over all.  Would have had 1 more 12U team, but could not get another coach.  14-16-19 scheduling games with Champlin.  Equipment handed out at coaches meeting on 4/12.  Using new jersey – more of a nylon fabric – new logo.  Girls seem to like it.  Still working on schedule.  Using 4 fields at Zane 4 days/week and fields at Central for Fast-Pitch.  New website created:  BPAASoftball.org.  Bought new bats, new bags and other equipment.

CITY OF BROOKLYN PARK – Steve

Steve introduced himself  as new Liaison since Mark Palm took new position and Laurie was let go in December.  With City 20 years.   Previous experience includes Community Center Manager, Athletic Association.  Mark training him in – it’s a busy time for him to be moving into this position.  Learning registration system.  Re:  Zane Sports Complex – complete irrigation system is going to be replaced right after soccer season – will be shut down.  Looking forward to working with Football Program re: Registration through City.  At this point re: softball and baseball schedules still go to Steve and Mark together.  For the next year Steve will be “on the job training” with Mark to help process go more smoothly.
