BPAA MINUTES FOR APRIL, 2007

The meeting was held at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at the Brooklyn Park Community Center.

ATTENDEES:

·                     Dan Williams, Dede Boelter, Dave Corbett, Jerry Gamber, Dave Gulbrandson, Markus Carter and Callistus Schissel.

SECRETARY’S REPORT:

·                     M/S/P.

TREASURER’S REPORT:

·                     M/S/P.

FOOTBALL – Markus & Callistus:

·                     Will have proposed budget at May meeting.

·                     Callistus has set up a few fundraisers for this year, including a car wash at Zane & 85th, one with Papa John’s Pizza, and one with Mickman Brothers Home & Garden Center.

·                     He also set up an arrangement with Dick’s Sporting Goods where they will sponsor (i.e. pay for) mini footballs that will be passed out at the Tater Daze parade.  The Tater Daze parade is June 14.

·                     The Board would consider this same type of arrangement with 500 each of footballs, baseballs, basketballs and soccer balls.

·                     At larger Dick’s Sporting Goods stores they arrange sport registrations at the store and offer discounts on purchases for specific items that players would need.

·                     Discussion regarding our website and changing server.

SOCCER – Dave:

·                     Registration begins next week.

·                     Soccer begins May 1 and first event is May 3.

·                     Mailings are out and being received.

·                     The video display in the BPCC hall now takes notices.  Let Laurie know or anyone in the office know if you want something to run.

·                     Google personalizes maps.  Have been using for soccer.

BASKETBALL – Jerry

·                     The equipment room needs to be cleaned out.  The common area is getting bad – it’s cluttered.  There is a chalk machine, chairs, baseball stuff - things the City moved in there.  Dan will send an e-mail asking them to address it.

·                     Am receiving a check from Osseo/Maple Grove for approx. $7,500 - $8,000 from last year for reconciliation.

·                     Didn’t pay the $5,000 insurance policy.

·                     Need to pay the City its fee.

SOFTBALL – Dave

·                     Coaches’ meeting was last Saturday.

·                     19U team from Coon Rapids is coming in.

·                     Starting May 7.

·                     Numbers are down this year, hoping the reduced entry fee will help.  Reduced the 8U fee.

·                     Looking for coaches.

·                     Pictures are May 1 & 2.  Pictures for 19U are the night of the first game.

·                     We need to order more registration forms.

NEW BUSINESS

·                     Bob Click is going to provide $3,000 in scholarship monies.

·                     We need to write a letter accounting for the scholarships.

·                     Football provided partial scholarship in the past.  This year it was going to provide full, which is $80 per player.  Looking at 5 scholarships.

·                     We need to account for last year’s scholarship to get an idea of how much we’re talking total.

·                     IF YOU HAVE NOT YET DONE SO, each sport needs to provide Dan with the total amount of scholarships provided in your sport, and the total dollar amount provided for last year.

·                     Dave G. e-mailed on April 24, saying “soccer had about $2,200 in financial assistance last year.”

·                     Dave G. has concerns about overlapping softball/baseball and soccer schedules.

·                     Discussion regarding starting a youth wrestling program within BPAA.

NEXT MEETING is Tuesday, May 22 at 8:30 p.m. at Brooklyn Park Community Center, Amory classroom.  PLEASE NOTE:  I will not be there.  Someone will have to take notes for me.
