YELLOW JACKETS TRAVELING FOOTBALL
TEAM
·
People attending tonight regarding
this issue are: Antwan Ford, head coach; Edd
Hansen, coach; Kevin Gaskins, coach; Brian Holley, coach; Sean Lohse-Johnson, parent; and Collette Hempel, parent.
·
The Yellow Jackets participated in a
tournament in
·
Beforehand they went over the
rules. Playing time was at coaches’
discretion. The amount of playing
time was not guaranteed. You do not
have to tryout to play on this team.
·
Mrs. Guyott-Hempel had concerns her son and others had little or
no playing time. On the bus home
her son was pushed and verbally assaulted. Her son, William, has Apraxia. He
feels good for practice but not always to play. She said Markus has been a great
coordinator over the past five years. She distributed a typed letter of her
story, feelings, thoughts and hopes. She did not stay to hear what the coaches
had to say. She did ask for a
written response.
·
Antwan said to his
knowledge he never had a complaint all season. They pulled Will (Collette’s son) off the
field in
·
Sean’s son is on the team and he
went as a chaperone. His son is not
a starter but played some in every game.
·
Brian said Will is most
inspirational – gives 150% effort and is much appreciated. Most games they got playing time for all
players. Collette Hempel helped with fundraising.
·
There is always some tension. The key is communication. What was communicated to parents
regarding the trip – exposure and opportunities to travel and experience. The
kids’ trip was paid for via fundraising.
The parents could have rode the bus. Hempels chose
to fly.
·
The Mustangs and Titans are coaches
the same way.
·
Collette’s perception is that her
son was not treated equally.
·
Antwan apologized
to Will’s dad for not getting him into the second game. Dad said no problem. Antwan was
concerned about his asthma. Antwan’s younger son has asthma so he can relate. It was suggested they get a medical
history of all players before the season begins.
