BPAA MINUTES FOR JULY 25, 2006

The meeting was held at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at the Brooklyn Park Community Center.

ATTENDEES:

·                     Markus Carter, David Gulbrandson, Gina Magstadt, Mark Palm, Jay Lotthammer, Callistus Schissel, Ed Ampe, Dede Boelter, Dave Corbett, and Wayne Heuer.

RecTrac/WebTrac – Gina & Jay

·                     We received a demonstration of the City’s RecTrac/WebTrac system that is being made available to BPAA.  Tami wasn’t present at the meeting, but if BPAA decides to go with this she’d be the first to use with basketball.  Perhaps schedule a time for her on another day.

·                     Pros:  The City already has the staff and is set up to handle internet, fax and in-person registrations, w/credit card.

·                     Cons:  How do we get volunteers?  There is already confusion with Park & Rec activities and BPAA sports.

·                     If we decide to use we would have to seek approval by the City as a budget adjustment.

·                     Vermont Systems owns RecTrac/WebTrac.  The Army, Marines, and Three Rivers Park are among their customers.  They are a nationwide company.

·                     We would be charged 5% off the top of each registration.  The credit card company takes 3 – 3 ½% and the difference would go to the City to cover staff time.

·                     To handle scholarships it was suggested we have an authorization that would be signed by the sport rep authorizing however much.

·                     The indemnification clause would be on our web page, flyer, etc.  Parent/guardian/player would have to check it off when signing up.

·                     Have a means to alert us to people on the NSF list.

·                     A problem for Markus as he does a prefit and weigh in at time of sign up.

·                     Will discuss at August meeting.

·                     FYI Gina’s phone is 763-315-8426 and e-mail is reginam@ci.brooklyn-park.mn.us

SECRETARY’S REPORT:

·                     M/S/P

TREASURER’S REPORT:

·                     The door to the shed still doesn’t lock/shut properly.  You need to slam the front door hard to get it to close and lock.  The lock area has been ground out so it is less sturdy.  Request that it be reframed.

·                     Softball still has some registrations that aren’t in yet (as of 07/19).

·                     Baseball will be paying off the concession stand this year.

·                     M/S/P

SOFTBALL – Ed:

·                     Only have the coaches’ picnic left.

·                     Tournament was last weekend – was nice.

·                     No issues; few complaints.

·                     Tater Daze wasn’t too profitable.

·                     Central Park shelter is scheduled tentatively to be done by the August.

·                     Am resigning from the softball committee.

BASEBALL – Wayne:

·                     Soccer/baseball overlap is still a problem.

·                     Tournament is over.

SOCCER - Dave G.:

·                     Season has started.

·                     Evergreen didn’t have goals so played with garbage cans.

·                     Overlap a slight problem.

·                     New rule this year – no slide tackles.

·                     U18 team is co-ed.

FOOTBALL – Markus:

·                     Two more registrations left.

·                     About ½ way there with projected numbers.

·                     Undecided regarding flag football.  Perhaps have an exhibition game.

BASKETBALL – No rep

CITY – Jay & Mark:

·                     Communication went well with field scheduling.

·                     Brookdale may be too long – should move the backstops up to shorten the length.  It will be an issue once it’s improved, but not now.

·                     Bring questions regarding RecTrac/WebTrac to August meeting.

MISC BUSINESS:

·                     Markus was contacted by a Dallas, Texas sport supply group.  Would like to give us a line of credit to buy their baseball stuff.  He gave the form to Dave C.

NEXT MEETING IS TUESDAY, AUGUST 22 AT 8:30 P.M. AT BROOKLYN PARK COMMUNITY CENTER, CONFERENCE ROOM (same as last month).
