BPAA MINUTES FOR OCTOBER 25, 2005

The meeting was held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25 at the Brooklyn Park Community Center.

ATTENDEES:

·                     Dede Boelter, Dan Williams, Joe Edwards, Dave Corbett, Mark Stein, Markus Carter, Dave Gulbrandson, and Ed Ampe.

SECRETARY’S REPORT:

·                     M/S/P.

TREASURER’S REPORT:

·                     Baseball’s concession stand check was deposited as $500 – not $5,000.  Dave notified the bank to get the correct amount noted.  The check was made for $5,000.

·                     The above matter was not resolved, in part, because Dave Corbett is not a signer for BPAA’s bank account so the bank cannot discuss problems, or any issues for that matter, with Dave.  Gail can, but she wasn’t comfortable discussing this issue with the bank.  A motion was made to add Dave Corbett’s name to the bank account for the purpose of conducting banking business.  Dave and Gail Corbett can not verify each other’s signatures (i.e. sign the same check).  M/S/P.

·                     Motion was made to approve and seconded.  Not passed.  Dan elected to table the Treasurer’s Report for this month.  He has questions regarding basketball and no one was here on behalf of basketball.

BASEBALL (Mark & Joe):

·                     Mark Stein is new baseball president.  Joe Edwards is vice president.  Wayne Heuer will be available to answer any questions.  Will be “behind the scenes.”

·                     Will be putting approximately $13,000 into upgrading Zanebrook West Softball Field No. 3.  Adding new back stops and fencing (as high as the baseball field).  Funds are coming from the concession stand fund.

·                     BPAA baseball is now going only to 13 year olds – no longer associated with Babe Ruth.

·                     The Board is in place.

·                     Looking at setting up a website.  Looking at E-teams.  It’s a free site but has advertising.  Told Dave Gulbrandson is our webmaster.  Baseball has a webmaster.  Looking at by-laws.  Dan will send a form to them.

SOFTBALL (Ed):

·                     Trying to get volunteers for next year.

·                     Working on shelving ideas for the storage shed.

·                     Talking about updating the fields at Zane, finish off the bench area and add tarps and netting.

SOCCER (Dave):

·                     Done for the season.

·                     Kick-off meeting will be in November.

FOOTBALL (Markus):

·                     The season is winding down.  It was pretty good, overall.

·                     There was an accusation of an ineligible player.

·                     There was an issue of coaches wanting to be in two leagues – here and North Minneapolis.

·                     People are trying to manipulate the rules to their advantage.

·                     Equipment return scheduled for November 12.

·                     Has bins in storage shed – good to go.

·                     Trees and wood chipper (from September storm) is blocking the shed.

·                     Post coaches’ meeting is set up.

·                     Received a NSF check.

·                     Had a raffle.  Each player sold a number of tickets for the raffle.  A volunteer ran the raffle.  Each coach signed for the number of tickets he/she received so they could track the number of tickets sold.  Sold for $1 each.  Some items were donated.  The City has rules regarding charitable gambling – should talk to Jay.  Raffle monies are for a new scoreboard.

·                     Received $1,000 in donations for football.

BASKETBALL:

·                     No rep.

OLD BUSINESS (Dan):

·                     We should have the occupancy certificate for the storage shed next week – hopefully by October 31.  We can’t move items in until we have the certificate but should be by end of the month.  Dan will have a master key.

·                     There is no power in the Central Park shed.

·                     Re 501(C)(3) – We should prepare a receipt to give people who donate to BPAA for tax purposes.

·                     Wayne and Joe interested in the Director at Large position.  Need to come to at least half of the meetings.

·                     We should have one list of suspended coaches and pass that list on to the next sport, season wise.  A suspended coach should be out for one year for all sports.  The head of each sport should let other sport head know of any problem coaches.

M/S/P.

Next meeting is Tuesday, November 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Brooklyn Park Community Center, Armory classroom.  Note I will not be there so someone else has to take notes.
