BPAA MINUTES FOR JUNE 28,
2005
The meeting was held at 8:30 p.m. on
Tuesday, June 28 at the Brooklyn Park Community Center.
ATTENDEES:
* Wayne Heuer, Dave
Gulbrandson, John Lundquist, Pam McClure, Markus Carter, Dede Boelter, Jay
Lotthammer, Dave Corbett and Ed Ampe.
SECRETARY'S REPORT:
* M/S/P
TREASURER'S REPORT:
* The report is
balanced through the June statement.
* One check each was
returned NSF for softball and fast pitch. Should we ask for a money order
or cashier check from those parties?
* We are officiailly a
501(c)(3) corporation so can accept donations.
* M/S/P
SOFTBALL - Dave C.
* Season is going
fine.
* Need to deal with
the NSF check.
* Tournament is July
15, 16 and 17. We are getting the concession stand organized, staffed
& ready.
* Will try to keep
scores up to date on line. Dave G. suggested if scores don't get on the
web site the game doesn't count.
* Discussion regarding
playing in the heat. Wayne said if the heat index hits 100 degrees
baseball cancels its games.
* Have been missing
spikes and cords for tents. Purchased replacement equipment; cost
$75. Soccer will contribute $25 towards that cost.
* There was a
complaint from a 12 & under umpire. Kids were chanting "you're gonna
lose the game for us." The coach will probably be suspended for one
game.
* There is a Code of
Conduct and disciplinary action should be indicated on the sheet.
* Will hand out a
tournament book at the end of season. Basketball includes a sign-up flyer
inside. Maybe football will as well.
* Fast pitch will have
a fall league.
BASEBALL - Wayne
* Incident at a 10/11
year old game. An assistant coach didn't like a series of calls and ran
out to the umpire, yelling. The commissioner saw the incident and a
two-game suspension was handed to the assistant coach. The head coach
tried to get the suspension dismissed. It's a judgment call and the
two-game suspension stands.
* Discussion on
how sports should address misbehaving:
Perhaps track the suspended coach so it's noted in all sports.
Have a yearly coach/umpire meeting to promote dialogue.
Create a sanction list for all sports.
Send out a letter.
* Baseball's
tournament is the same weekend as softball's (July 15/16/17). Softball
should just be at the wheel, otherwise at Central. Can baseball get Noble
Park or Brookdale?
* Question raised as
to chances of getting a fourplex at River Park. It would take pressure off
Monroe. Jay says not much chance.
* The mid-season
tournament and all-star games went well.
* Status of equipment
shed? Should coaches keep the equipment or return it to Central for
now? It's Baseball's choice - new shed probably won't be ready til
October.
* The shed should have
a common area for overlaping items such as coolers, tents, etc., that everyone
can/will use.
* We should get Bob
Peavey (equipment manager, 425-1755) involved so he knows where everything
is.
SOCCER - John
* Over 1,300 players,
102 teams.
* Primary concern is
the fields. The turf isn't growing on two of the lit fields, the other two
will be fine. Will be taking soil samples to see what the fields
need. For now it's just not growing. Might have to close those two
fields for the year. Five to six times this year the fields have been shut
down due to rain saturation.
FOOTBALL - Markus
* Have had a couple
registrations - didn't get the turn out expected. Maybe too close to
soccer registration. Will do it again next year. Will have three
more registrations in July (07/23, 07/27 and 08/03) at Brooklyn Park Community
Center.
* Had a meeting with
Jay today that went well.
BASKETBALL - Tammy
* Confirmed
registration times.
* Working on the
budget. Added the storage shed fee.
* Maybe find some
donations.
* Looking at a Code of
Conduct.
* Addressing
scholarhip requirements. Perhaps require volunteer time and a smaller
fee. Got a financial assistance form.
* Am getting more
volunteers/commissioner.
CITY - Jay
* The Lease Agreement
was passed out and approved by the city council.
* Dan needs to sign
and send it back to Jay.
* Discussion aas to
shed plans. Still want a common area.
* Rain is affecting
everything. Haven't had too many rain out, though.
* There are a lot of
lights out; being replaced.
MISC -
* Softball had a dunk
tank at Tater Daze. Richard Herman, a commissioner, primarily manned
it. Took in $551 and split it with City so $275.50 goes to the
City.
* Where does the
$25,000 downpayment come from? $5,000 from general savings? How do
we account for it - Create a new "storage facility" account and start it out
with a negative number.
Meeting adjourned.
