BPAA MINUTES FOR NOVEMBER 23, 2004

The meeting was held at 7:30 on Tuesday, November 23, 2004, at the Brooklyn Park Community Center.

ATTENDEES:
*    Dede Boelter, Dan Williams, Jay Lotthammer, Richard Habstritt, Ed Ampe, Dave Corbett, Wayne Heuer and Dave Gulbrandson.

SECRETARY'S REPORT:
*    No quorum for October so no minutes.

TREASURER'S REPORT:
*    Detail distributed for September 29 through November 23, 2004.  As there was no report for October both months were combined.
*    The amount spent on basketballs ($11,263) might be wrong.  Dave will check into it.
*    M/S/P

BASEBALL - WAYNE:
*    Met with Jay and Linda regarding upgrade of Zane Park.  Plan to resod, shape, etc. in 206
*    Will meet next month about paying off the balance of the concession stand.
*    Still talking about a functional merger with Babe Ruth.

SOCCER - DAVE:
*    Next meeting is in January
*    Mike Smeja passed away.  He was a coach.

FAST PITCH - ED:
*    Positions are filled for next season.
*    Registrations for January are being put together.

BASKETBALL - RICHARD:
*    Started practice.
*    1,000 players registered.  Numbers are up.
*    Forming teams the first Saturday in December.
*    Priority now is the 7/8 grade tournament in December.  Expecting 65 teams and hope to earn approximately $9,000.
*    Updating the website.  All elementary games are scheduled.  Working on others.
*    Paid $5,000 to the City today.  It's an estimate.
*    Anoka is now charging $8 per player, plus $5 - $13 for a security fee.  This is hard to deal with because the budget is already in place.  This also affects Champling traveling.
*    $1,000,000 liability policy required by Osseo and Anoka school districts.  Last year was $5,000.  This year now estimated at $6,000.  Cost is decided by the number of games and number of dates games are played.  Am trying to find reasonable insurance.  Renewal is December 19 so probably won't find anything better this year.
*    Had a 2 1/2 hr referee clinic.  Approximately 32 people attended.  Went well.
*    April 1, 2005, is my last official day with BPAA.

CITY - JAY:
*    Looked at Zane Sports Park with Wayne.  Tough to share baseball with softball.  Plan to modify field length and backstop to get more field use.
*    Lights are up at Central and rinks (inline and skating).
*    Plan to go before the counsel in January with proposal for the storage facility.
*    Our football fields didn't fare well regarding condition and current quality.  Will talk to Markus about it.  Fall was wet and hard on the fields.  Will look at Champlin and Brooklyn Center to compare.  Almost all games for Champlin are at Northland.  They have a light program as almost all their kids are with BPAA.

TAXES - DAN:
*    We file first with State and then Federal.
*    Jim will take the Articles of Incorporation with to the Secretary of State.  We should have a subcommittee go through the Articles of Incorporation ("AI").  Dan, Dave C and Ed.  Proceed and amend the AI later (if necessary).  Jim would help go through the AI next week.  Then he'll finish so we can file in January.

CHARITABLE GAMBLING:
*    We have an opportunity to handle pulltabs at Kelly's Pub & Liquor.
*    Kelly was not happy with hockey cause they lied.  Wants to find someone else to run.  The contract with hockey expires in january, 2006, so we have a year.  Kelly might break the contract with hockey so we could get in quicker.  For now we're fine waiting the year.
*    We are not necessarily a guarantee.
*    May not be long term - maybe only 2-3 years.
*    Should we start going there for banquets?
*    Net is six figures a year after expenses.
*    Liquor store is at Brookdale Drive and Xerxes.  Restaurants are at Noble & 85th and Boone and 63rd.

STORAGE:
*    Maybe reconfigure interior.
*    Consider paying for storage per player as opposed to square footage needed by a sport.
*    Jay will take the proposal to the City Concil.

ELECTIONS:
*    No changes in officers.

Next meeting is Tuesday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m.  It's our annual dinner so will be at Edinburgh.  Please make every effort to attend.  Spouses are welcome.  RSVP.  Menu options are forthcoming.
