2004
The meeting was held at 8:30 p.m. on
Tuesday, July 27, at the Brooklyn Park Community Center.
ATTENDEES:
* Dede Boelter,
Mike Moriarity, John Koch, Jay Lotthammer, Markus Carter, Dan Williams, Wayne
Heuer, Dave Corbett, Ed Ampe, John Lundquist, David Gulbrandson
SECRETARY'S REPORT:
*
M/S/P
TREASURER'S REPORT:
*
M/S/P
MISC/NEW BUSINESS:
* FYI "You Name It"
is a business that embroiders group names and other info on shirts and
jerseys. Perhaps sports can use? Wayne will have pertinent
information at next meeting.
* Mike Moriarity is
handling Fast Pitch Softball for now.
* A pastor who is
involved in the soccer program objected to Sunday practices. Is this
something we should be concerned about? We don't punish players for
missing practice/games due to religion.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
SOCCER (John L & Dave
G):
* The season
started in July.
* We have
approximately 1,500 players and 104 teams.
* Headaches -
a player tripped and wanted to sue; there was a fight in the
stands.
* Working out the
bugs at the Noble Sports Park's irrigation system.
* In addition at
Noble Sports Park would like more trash cans, clean the porta pottis more often,
leave lights on til 10:15 p.m. At present they shut off at 10
p.m.
BASEBALL (John K &
Wayne):
* In-house baseball
just ended.
* Year-end party
set to be held at Northwoods.
* Will be meeting
to merge with Babe Ruth Baseball, ages 5-18 will be one league.
* Need to make some
of the fields smaller for mid-age players (not 90' bases).
* Wayne wants to
meet to discuss next year's fields with Jay & Dave C.
* 9-10 age group is
the largest.
* Kids were
throwing M-80's during a game at Zanewood and afterward doing drugs. Not
players.
SOFTBALL (Ed & Dave
C):
* Done for the
year; no major problems or issues.
* At the equipment
turn in discovered stuff had been moved/disrupted. Some boxes were
gone. John maybe moved them to the football area.
* Ed would like to
expand next year.
* The end-of-season
picnic is set for July 28 at Central Park.
* Sent Jay an
e-mail regarding the porta-potties at the tournament. Not one was
clean/useable. Would like permanent (flush) toilets.
* Will probably
start a boys team; Terry Parks would be the program director. Champlin
& Andover have boys softball teams. Will start with older kids and
work our way down.
CITY (Jay):
* Will be meeting
with Dan and the architect at the current facility to discuss square feet,
footprint, compartments, shelving, etc, so the architect can get a feel for the
space needs and who uses it.
* Will lay out a
master building plan at Zane for storage, toilets and concessions (priority in
this order).
* Signed a contract
with the architect.
* Hopfully put
storage building at the south side of Zane Sport Park - south of
softball field 7 by the church.
* Will need
$200,000 for toilets alone.
* $150,000 for
concessions.
* Can't put all
three together - it's too much for the one spot.
* The City is not
hiring any more maintenance people so cleaning permanent toilets would be more
trouble.
* Re cleaning
porta-potties, there were a lot of graduation parties in June so Biff's was
spread pretty thin for dumping & cleaning.
* We can save money
by teams doing their own dragging & chalk. Perhaps store a tack box
with a lock at fields behind the back stop. Implement?
FOOTBALL (Markus):
* Registration is
July 28. Four registration dates are scheduled. Will put on
marquee.
* Teams will be by
grade.
* Brooklyn Center
will be playing with us.
* Second and
third grades are instructional. Coaches will be on the field all season -
they will not be competitive.
FAST PITCH (Mike):
* Fall league
registration is set for August 2-3.
* Will be August 22
through September 25.
* Ages 10-12,
14-16.
* $60 registration
fee.
* Will be at Park
Center JV field.
* Will need two
fields for fall ball at the wheel.
* Will get
registration forms to Dave C to enter into data bank.
BASKETBALL (Richard):
