BPAA MINUTES FOR APRIL, 2004

Meeting was held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, at Brooklyn Park Community Center.

ATTENDEES:
*    Dede Boelter, John Lundquist, Markus Carter, Jay Lotthammer, Richard Habstritt, John Koch, Wayne Heuer, Dave Corbett, Gail Corbett and Ed Ampe.

SECRETARY'S REPORT:
*    Amend third bullet in Softball's report - They are considering waiving the fee for committee members' kids to play.  Haven't done it, though.
*    M/S/P

TREASURER'S REPORT:
*    March 23 softball deopsits were missing from the balance sheet so March was revised to include them.
*    April balance sheet not ready as April's statement had not yet been received from the bank.
*    Soccer, football and basketball needs to let Dave know the number of players they had last year to finalize the accounting entries.  $2 per player goes into the Administrative Account.  Right now it's not correct.  It'd help if each sport would let Dave know how many players they had at the end of their respective season.
*    Will "clean out" the differential account.
*    M/S/P

BASEBALL - Wayne
*    630 are registered and more want to sign up.  This is up 7-8% from last year
*    Saturday is opening day.  Will have TC bear, treats, etc.
*    The scoreboards are fixed.
*    The grafitti in the dugouts has been painted over.
*    Had to get more uniforms.
*    Would like to talk with softball to see if they are interested in developing another park - like Northwoods.  Dave would like lights and fencing.
*    Will talk to Town & Country about fencing upgrades.

SOCCER - John
*    Registration is starting in May.  Will be using EZScoreboard for registration.
*    Will meet with Jay on Thursday regarding new complex fields.
*    Mailed flyers out to schools.
*    Should be no conflict with baseball - baseball's tournament is the week of July 12 - 17.  Soccer starts July 19.

FOOTBALL - Markus
*    Had some rule changes - going from ages to grades.  This will be of benefit when playing with other communities as they all go by grades.
*    Flyers go out next month.
*    Fees haven't changed.
*    Will have budget in May.

BASKETBALL - Richard
*    Basketball is over for the season.
*    The tournament went well.  A couple complaints from junior high level - time-crunch situations.
*    9th grade will now be a part of the senior high program - grades 9/10 will be one group and 11/12 will be another group.
*    Meeting on April 28.  Will reconcile finances at that time.  The insurance policy hurt - it went from $2,000 to $5,000.  $109 for every game.  Will check into alternatives to try and save money.
*    Will check into developing the web site, especially for practice times.
*    There is a new community director at Osseo - will meet with him.
*    Custodial fees are high - it's the biggest cost.  Would like standard fees set.  It varies from school to school.
*    Registrations will be at Zanewood and the Community Center.
*    Personal note - Next year is my last year but am making sure the program will be fine.  At Brooklyn Park's volunteer get together was named Volunteer of the Year.  Richard extended a sincere thank you.

CITY - Jay
*    Met with Dan about the storage concept.
*    Considering Noble storage and toilets.
*    Will get schematic designs - looks, estimate, how it sits on the site, etc.
*    Richard addressed storage issues and asked about renting space.  The problem with that is access - parents can't get right to the storage location to pick up equipment, etc.
*    Perhaps something like Champlin Park's multi-purpose facility.
*    Zane wheel is looking at a patio area and maybe toilets.
*    Central Park building tentative to be torn down August of 2005.
*    Will need a 3-4' soil cap on the top and east of the hill in Central Park before other work can begin.  Hope to have decision by this fall.
*    There will be a grand opening at Noble Park on June 18 during Tater Daze.
*    As always, use the marquee to get information out.

SOFTBALL - Dave & Ed
*    Still taking registrations.  At present have about 480.
*    A 14 year old player has a wheelchair-bound father.  Is Brookdale 1 accessible for him?  It has a red rock trail.  Ed will talk to the father and see if he's okay with that field.
*    Would like to put an overhang net up on the backstop.  Discussion - If you put one up you need to have it on all.  It becomes a liability issue.  Maybe take it down at the end of the season.
*    Steve Gulenchyn is handling a high school boys softball program.  Not much interest.  Ed would like to talk to him.
*    There is a scrimage this Saturday to meet parents and coaches.
*    Kids will be able to umpire 10+ under games this year.
*    Ed brought in a tax exempt form to Office Max and they issued a card to him.  FYI Olson Printing has good prices on copying.

FAST PITCH -
*    No Mike
